Elliott: "I want to create my own history at Valencia CF"

English attacker Harvey Elliott arrives at Valencia CF amidst plenty of intrigue and excitement, and he told VCF Media a little more about himself in his first interview since arriving on loan.  

Joining Valencia CF

"It’s been very busy, but really nice. I’m very happy to be here. Now that we’ve got all the important things out of the way, hopefully I can join up with the team and be ready to play this weekend.

I wanted the opportunity to come here, play regularly and experience a different league. I’m very grateful to Valencia CF for giving me that opportunity. I feel ready to get started, but ultimately, it’s down to the coach whether he wants to put me in."

The appeal of Valencia CF

"Valencia CF are a very historic club. They’ve had some incredible players come through over the years, like David Silva and David Villa. Personally, David Silva was someone I really looked up to, because of his performances and the way he played. Hopefully, I can reach a similar level, but at the same time, I want to create my own history with the club this season. I want to help the team go as far as possible and, hopefully, qualify for European football -because I believe this club deserve that. It’s an incredible club, and I think the fans deserve to enjoy that experience again."

Conversations with Giorgi Mamardashvili

"Giorgi has told me that the fans are incredible. When things aren’t going well, they support you and stick behind you all the way. When you’re winning and playing well, they’re the best fans you could ask for. He also said that the city is amazing. We spoke a little bit, although I didn’t want to ask too much and give away what was happening. But Giorgi had some really positive things to say about the city and, especially, the club. I’m really excited and looking forward to experiencing it for myself."

Commitment

"For me, hard work means giving 100% in every game and every training session. That’s something you need to have as a player. I’d love to help the team in that way, but I also think I can contribute offensively with my creativity, assists and goals. I see myself as a playmaker in that sense. Whatever the team need, I want to help. I want to use all my attributes and contribute as much as I can to help us win games. I believe I can do that."

Talking to Carlos Corberán

"We had a call a few days ago. He was very pleased that this opportunity could happen, and for me, it was a great opportunity to come here and play. We spoke for quite a while about his expectations. I think we’re going to have a very good relationship. Hopefully, as a team, we can really push on and have a very successful season."

Mestalla

"For me, it’s a privilege to play in such a historic and incredible stadium. I’d never been to the stadium before. To play here in front of the home fans and, hopefully, perform really well, is going to be very special. 

Looking back on my career in the future and being able to say that I played at Mestalla will mean a lot to me. I’ll be part of the stadium’s history, and hopefully it will be an amazing season all round. Hopefully, we can achieve many things here this season."

Valencia

"With all the sunshine, though, I’ll have to be careful, because us English tend to get sunburnt very easily! I’m sure I’m going to really enjoy it, as will my family, and hopefully it will feel like home very quickly."

His passions

"I love music. I have DJ decks at home, so I enjoy doing that from time to time. I also have two dogs, and I like spending time with them, my girlfriend and my family. It’s important to have things outside of football, because football can be very intense and demanding. It’s nice to switch off, relax and spend time with the people and things that are important to you."

His message to the fans

"I’m here. Let’s achieve some beautiful things this season. I’m very excited to see you all this weekend. Hopefully, this can be the start of something very, very good. See you soon."
